“Bridging the communication gap between cyclists and drivers.”

This project explores rapid product development through the design of a bike light aimed at improving cyclist safety. Developed over a six-week period, the project moves from concept through prototyping to a resolved outcome.

Inspired by my own experience as a triathlete, the focus was on improving communication between cyclists and drivers to reduce risk on shared roads.

Alongside the physical development of the product, I created a pitch video using Blender to clearly demonstrate how the design works, using animation as a tool to communicate the concept more effectively than static visuals alone.

Visualising Velo Glow

From CAD data to animated storytelling through Blender.

The pitch video was created in Blender to communicate the design and function of Velo Glow. The process began with importing CAD models from SolidWorks, requiring topology conversion to ensure clean geometry for rendering. The project involved material exploration, scene building, and storyboard development to clearly demonstrate the product’s use.

Animation was used to highlight key features, including motion, lighting interaction, and internal components. Careful control of camera angles and lighting was essential to achieve clarity and realistic reflections. Completed over two weeks, the process combined modelling, animation, rendering, and editing to produce a clear and engaging product narrative.
